wii, wii, wii, all the way home

Not a terribly interesting post, but here is my wish list of wii games. I feel that our wii is really under used, and I wish I had these games to play:

- Just Dance 1 & 2
- Michael Jackson Experience
- Def Jam Rap Star
- Endless Ocean
- Kirby's Epic Yarn

Being sick has its advantages.

1. Catching up on episodes of Modern Family while husband takes infant son to the grocery store.

2. Vicks scented tissues. (I'm usually pretty crunchy/green, but vapo-rub is a guilty pleasure for sure)

3.

the weight of things

I finally joined a handful of swaps over at Swap Bot. This is a website where you can search for swaps to join and then it automatically assigns partners and sends you reminders and all of that. A fun and exciting way to get mail! I joined a couple of very small swaps (a postcard, some ribbon) just to get my feet wet, but I'm really excited about the kawaii stationery and thrift store swaps. Those are two of my very favorite things!

In other news, Murphy's clothes are taking over my life! How does a one year old have so many clothes?! It seems like every day I open up his shirt drawer and try to weed out the unnecessary stuff, but I'm having a really hard time making the decision to ax anything. Most of his shirts are either solid color, which seem too practical to get rid of, or vintage stuff I found at the thrift store that is too awesome to get rid of. This is pretty much the same problem I run into with my own closet. How do you keep yours in control, Internet?

Moo

This week I have been pretty upset about milk.

You see, we receive WIC benefits (it really saved our butts when breastfeeding failed us and we had to switch Murphy to formula, a story for another day). Now that Murph is a year old, one of the items that we get with our check is whole milk for the little guy to drink\. Now organic milk is not allowed, and I can kind of understand this because it is A LOT more expensive than regular milk. However, I have been unable to find a way to get milk that is growth hormone free, even though I really should be able to.

The hormone-free milk from upstate farms comes in 1/2 gallon containers only. This is the only non-organic hormone free option in our grocery stores. But my check says "1 gallon". Now you would think that as long the price is still within the limits of the check that I should be able to get 2 half gallon jugs with my 1 gallon of milk check, right? I mean, why not? But it is still not allowed.

Now I understand that this is a public assistance program and, you know, beggars can't be choosers, but the thing is there isn't a difference! I wouldn't be costing them any more money or breaking any rules other than the simple fact of one single container versus two smaller containers.

Does no one else see this??!!

I want to take a moment to talk about something that has bothered me for years. Isabella Rossellini. I don't have anything against her as an actress. I'm a David Lynch fan, Blue Velvet is cool. But there is one totally distracting fact about Isabella Rossellini. The kind of thing you can't unsee. I feel I must share it with the world.

Okay, so here is Isabella in her famous role from Blue Velvet:

She's sultry and beautiful, right?

But there's one problem...

Thrift Score!

Lately I've been trying to sew some diapers for Murph, but it hasn't been working out so well. The diapers look okay, but I made a small and a medium and he clearly needs something in between. I think I will look for a different pattern rather than try yo modify the one we've been using from Covered Caboose. Perhaps we will try to Ottobre pattern?

Today I made a serious thrift SCORE. I got a classic khaki trench coat with zip out winter lining for 99 cents! It was supposed to be 8.99, which still would have been a steal, but it was the clearance tag color of the day- whoopie! I'm going to get it dry cleaned to see if a few spots can be cleaned away, but after that I will take a pic. They also had a pretty sharp members only jacket, but the credit card machine was down and I didn't have enough cash.

In medias res

I sewed a pair of Brobee longies for Murphy today.

Photobucket

It's something I've been planning in my head for awhile, but I decided to finally do it now because this week he is suddenly loving the "Party in My Tummy" board book. Being the hungry guy that he is, I suppose he just really identifies with the overarching themes.

Seriously, it is funny how opinionated he has become about books. I no longer get to choose his bedtime story-- he will shove aside every book I hold up until I find the one he wants. When I finally find THE ONE Murphy will just let out a little laugh.
